CAR RIDES + KIDS = STRESS/COMEDY

So it is  a NO WIN situation when we all jump in the car to go ANYWHERE ... the trip can be 15 minutes or 15 hrs and I can tell you exactly how it is going to go ... I have tried all different kinds of seat / kid combos (nothing is successful) ...

It starts w/ someone (usually Elijah) annoying Maggie - the other day Elijah was lip syncing a song and it was driving Maggie up the wall ... She simply couldn't turn and look at the window ... OH NO !!! she had to scream her head off at how he was ANNOYING HER ...

followed by

Daisy in the next row by Jeremiah holding a shiny new penny ... For some reason it was like a COOL TOY ... Jeremiah said to keep it low or else Joseph would want one and there weren't any more pennies on the floor ( I doubt that, but anyway that was what Jeremiah said) ... Well, I am sure I don't have to tell you what came next ... Daisy raising her shiny new penny in the air just in Joseph's sight ... She was giggling and laughing w/ it like it was a freakin toy from Disneyland ... This of course caused a HUGE RAMBLING SHOW FROM JOSEPH about how he didn't have one and that it is NOT FAIR (now remember Joseph doesn't really speak - so it was the longest jibberish ever w/ lots and lots of SAD, ANGRY FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ...

AND LET'S TOP IT ALL OFF w/ the Boss herself - MISS EMILY tattle telling ON EVERYONE ..

Mom, Elijah's seat belt strap is crocked !!

Mom, Daisy is gonna put that penny in her mouth

Mom, can you tell Maggie to be quiet so I can hear the music

Mom, tell Joseph to stop kicking the set and rambling

Mom, do you hear me !!!

I am doing my best juggle act and using all of my MOM DEGREE in psychology to rationalize w/ everyone, while my sweet hubby just sings to the radio as if NOTHING IS GOING ON !!!  It is like he can completely tune them out ... NOT to mention not one child is YELLING DADDY ...

just sayin !!!

When my hubs is in the car he can tune it out too.....here is how ours goes....

E (6) touches A (3)....just under my mirror radar. She screams her head off.

S (3) decides screaming her head off seams like fun. D (3 and also has few words) starts telling me something in jibberish.

A (3) sandal falls off and screams "my shoe, my shoe, my shoe". In the process she hits E (6) in the head with something.

E (6) starts yelling about his head. Again S (3) decides complaining about her head is a good idea too.

D (3) decides this is all too much and shuts COMPLETELY down.

Did I mention we have a 35 minute ride to get anywhere. LOL. I'm there with you!

I hear ya! And thank you for the insight to all the questions below! I definately want to be proactive...and especially unswerving, unwavering, very much caring less about what anyone thinks except for God!

Gwen, it's the opposite in my house, I learnt how to tune them out once I got to 2 kids and hubby still can't do it...bwa ha ha ha.

Just gotta go to your happy place lady and don't let 'em in. THen when they do get in you will still be smiling and they will be so shocked that they will smile too.

Whoever comes up with a sound proof shield that you can raise between the frontseats and the backseats of any automobile when the kids get unruly will be the next millionaire.

Ha! Ha! That is so funny Gwen! I only have three munchkins in my fabulous mini van but the fighting and squabbling that occurs is a wonder! Mine don't even wait till they are buckled in, they fight about where they will sit. EVERY day I hear myself saying, "guys, it DOESN'T matter where you sit!" then I usually tell them to pipe down or I'll make 'em ride strapped to the roof, lol! Gotta be able to laugh or I'll end up in the loony bin! Hang in there! ;)

Oh wow, sounds like my car! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one. I call this the "Circus Act" especially when it follows me into the store.

So glad your family is "normal".

I tune it out, though, and hubby gets exasperated and says, "Don't you hear them?!?!"
