The World Can Smother Us ...

I find myself on a daily basis trying to compare my thinking to scripture ... Trying to figure out this AMERICAN GOODNESS concept w/ what actually lines up with scripture ... We are so bombarded each day with what the world thinks about HOW WE LOOK, HOW WE ACT, HOW WE GIVE, HOW WE SERVE, HOW WE SAVE, WHAT WE DRIVE, WHERE WE LIVE, ETC ...  that it is easy for it to seep into our lives and become our way of life and thinking ... but it is what SCRIPTURES SAYS that should be our measuring stick or our focal point ... It is like we have on glasses w/ a prescription that doesn't work when we listen to the world - blurry, confusing, and GIVES US A BIG OLE HEADACHE ...

This is just my thought for the day ... LOVE TO YOU ALL AND HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND

Hi! First time commenting on your blog but I visit often!

I have been thinking along the same lines lately and Psalms 90 has been playing over and over in my mind. "Teach me to number my days Lord". To remember what and who is important so that I don't get caught up in the mundane things that bog me down day after day. We are here for a purpose and are called for an appointed time. I don't want to miss it. So I pray daily for less of me and of this world and for more of Him and His pupose. It is an everyday battle. I absolutely knew what your post today was saying.

Be blessed today!!!

So true! As we've asked the Holy Spirit to reveal where we need to change, there has been lots of pruning going on. But the great thing about pruning is that afterward we can bear more fruit!

John 15:2

"Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit."

I think I need some earplugs to drown out the American Dream that yells so loudly around me! Preach it, sister!

I had no idea the impact of the pressures to "keep up with the Jones" til we moved to Hong Kong. We have no neighbors named Jones. And all that pressure has vanished!

This is so very true. I too have been thinking along the same lines. My days are numbered by God and I don't want them wasted on what the world thinks is important but what God sees as important and eternal.

I was asked yesterday...."when is it enough"...pertaining to my seven children and our youngest four being adopted. I couldn't believe it because she has never spoken to me before....I found it odd because she must have been thinking about me and wondering when we would stop...and now had the courage/stupidity to ask....since we just added our seventh child in November.

Sigh.

God is good and I am grateful and blessed. Loved the post.

This is so, so true! I have had this conversation about three times this week with different people. It is so hard sometimes to determine what is right. Your words are so true that the Scriptures must be our measuring stick. Thanks for this little confirmation today.

Yes and Amen.

God just had me in Joshua 1:8.

What the world says is success isn't the GOOD success of the Word of God! And how the world measures prosperity falls short to say the least.

Wading through the muck with you on this one!

I hear you. America is both a blessing and a curse!

I have been pondering this a lot lately as well. Praying God reveals what I need to hear and know for HIS glory.

I've done the Daniel study by Beth Moore twice now. I opened my eyes to the "Babylon" we live in. "I am and there is none besides me" is the motto of American living. It sickens me to think of how we've become, but then I don't think about my own "entitlements" and the things that I think I'm owed. Big heart-changer to switch up our perspective.
Good word!! Thanks for that!
