Something To Tuck Inside Your Heart ...

I am reading (very slowly) "There Is No Me Without You" by Melissa Fay Greene ... Last night while I was reading I was profoundly changed in my heart and in my thoughts ... In our culture very few people can wrap their minds around statistics in the millions (unless a scientist or mathematician)... The author put it in a way that brought it home to me ... She is writing about the orphan situation in Africa ... There are over 25 million children orphaned by HIV/Aids ... She went on to put those children into her daily life ... So ponder these statistics and put your own life into the mix of it ...

Who is going to take 25 million children to school, sign 25 million permission slips for field trips, watch 25 million basketball games, kiss 25 million boo boos, make 25 million p/b jelly sandwiches, take 25 million children to the YMCA, put 25 million children to bed with kisses and prayers, cheer for 25 million good report cards, play in the back yard with 25 million children, take 25 million children school shopping, play hide and seek (or ring around the rosie) with 25 million children, teach 25 million children to swim, comb or place bows in 25 million children's hair, tie 25 million shoes, and take 25 million children to sunday school ...

Lord thank you for finding ways to open my heart and prayer life to the things that are important to you ... I want to challenge us all to pray for the orphans of the world in a real way and do whatever we can to help ... ADOPT, PRAY, SPONSOR, PRAY, DONATE, PRAY, SPREAD THE WORD, PRAY, SPEAK UP FOR THOSE THAT CAN NOT SPEAK, PRAY, EDUCATE OURSELVES, PRAY ... OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT GOD LAYS ON YOUR HEART ...

I have met some incredible people in bloggerland and I know together we can make a difference ...

Love to you all and have a great weekend !!!!

15 kind words.:

Oh Gwen...I love this post! Our dear friends received their referral this week for their THREE children from Ethiopia.....two girls...aged 3&4 and one infant boy...These are all siblings...This precious family already has 6 bio daughters...ranging in age from 13 to 2!(They should travel within 6 weeks to 3 months) They are truly an awesome family! They teach our Homeschool band...and we just adore them all!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful heart here, once again..you ALWAYS bless me to pieces with your posts!
( I especially love this part of the title!..."Tuck Inside Your Heart" because that is exactly why I chose that for my blog title....the things we treasure the most....we do tuck inside our hearts.....and you are so right...we should tuck these precious children deep inside and blanket them in our prayers continually.)

Love you dear friend!

wow, when you put it in the way you did (or the book does), it would be wonderful if everyone in the country took in at least one of these children...there would be no more orphans in africa then; makes me think deeply about what crystal's about to embark on

I am in tears (not that you are surprised!) as I read this post! That book changed me, it put a face to the millions of orphans in Ethiopia. I think she did an amazing job, and I learned so much about my kiddos birth country.

I just love that you challenge your readers! I can't wait to see how the Lord uses you in this country. I can't wait to lock arms with you and DO something that will be God honoring in this beautiful country.

I love you more than you know!

OK, hope this doesn't duplicate, my comment just went out into oblivion after I posted...

I appreciate you sharing your heart Gwen, it really helps me keep my life in prespective when I think things are going so awfully wrong, it helps me see that things are actually fabulous.
Keep me on your hit list and add Kevin, I am praying from my end.

Hi Gwen,

Those #'s seem impossible, and yet, we know, we who have been blessed to hold our children who we've waited for what seems like forever to hold...we know that nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible for God!!!

I wanted to say thank you to you, just here folding mounds of laundry and glanced over at my Jesus Calling devotional...thank you for stepping out in God's Name and sharing this book. It has moved me and my days in so many blessed ways. Most days I end up just crying and praying and praising with so much love and thankfullness to loving Father we all are so blessed to share!!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank YOU for being open to God's working through you to reach so many of us:)

Hoping each day finds Maggie's heart held in love,
Diane..Mama to Joe, Jen, Jana Mei, Jadyn Hua and JOY Hua
