Dr. Visit #2

I am starting to think that Mama Bear is here to stay. We go in for our CT Scan and everyone is mesmerized by Maggie. Her story seems to bring many people to tears on the spot. I ask God to use her story to plant seeds of His Grace and Mercy. They come in to sedate her and the meds are not working. I am sure she is thinking "not going to sleep in this crazy place." The nurse comes back in and decides to up her dose for fear her tantrum will wear the meds she already has off ... Second dose kicks in pretty fast and off to the CT room we go ... Can I just say my heart leaped to my stomach as I saw my precious little one under that huge machine lifeless... The nurse then says that instead of letting her sleep it off for 20 minutes we should probably let her sleep for 45 minutes ... My MIL went with me and was a huge help. She goes to get coffee comes back with a brownie (she knows me so well). I go to the bathroom and while I am gone a new nurse comes and decides to ignore the other nurses orders. My MIL is calling my cell phone while in the bathroom and I run back in to a screaming child who is being woken with out me there with a cold wash rag ... She is in a full on tantrum ...Kicking, screaming, eyes closed, throwing her head back, etc ... The nurses are not sure what to do ... I let them know quickly that she was not suppose to be woken up yet ... They aren't sure what to do and they are trying to tell me to watch her head ... LOL ... I said I have been dealing with this for a month, I am fine. They said they wanted her to drink before we could leave ... I let them know very quickly that this would last for at least 2 hours and that she would not be drinking ... I don't think they believed me because I walked around with her for 20 minutes waking up everyone else, until they decided to discharge us ... Should have listen to the MOM !!!

As soon as I walked out of the hospital she calmed down and feel asleep to High School musical in the car..

I will be honest I have never really had sick children that needed to be brought to hospital and I am learning quickly that I will have to be a Mama Bear quite often since I will be Maggie's only advocate ... We see the specialist Monday morning for him to go over the CT scan and discuss our surgery options ...

I am so encouraged by everyone and know that you all are in my prayers as a Thanksgiving to the Lord ...

31 kind words.:

Oh, how your beautiful girls take my breath away....
I have often referred to myself as a "She-bear with rabies protecting her baby cubs!" lol You're her Mama! YOu do what you have to do!
Sometimes I am baffled by the lack of "knowledge" by certain professionals.
You are in my prayers.
God bless and sweet dreams.

You go Gwen! We do sometimes have to let professional know that we do know more than them. It's like child birth. Your telling them that it's time and they want to tell you, not for another 2 hours. Till they check you and then they're running to get a doctor. =]
Have you noticed how much Emily has grown since you've brought Maggie home?! WoW! She is such a big girl now and a Wonderful big sister. It's written all in her smiles.=] I love the sister pictures! Thanks Continuely praying, the Medlin's

Look them square in the eye, Mama Bear and be that baby girl's advocate! You are doing exactly what you were called by God to do! He knew who Maggie needed to speak for her! And God DOESN'T MAKE MISTAKES!
Praying from Michigan.

You have been in my thoughts and prayers lately Gwen. I am so sorry Maggie had to go through all of that but it is wonderful that she has a precious Mom who prays over her like you do. It is even more wonderful that we have a Father to call on in our time of need and He takes care of us. Maddie is in my prayers and I pray that she will learn to trust more and more each day.

It's sad to say, but you are exactly right. Braden was very sick when he was about 15 months old. There were many times that if I had not been paying attention and known what was supposed to be done, mistakes would have been made. You have to be on top of it. You are such a great Mama Bear. I am praying for your family.

As a nurse, I know that there are some people that somehow made it through nursing school, but just don't GET it. As a nurse, I will tell you what I tell anyone I run into...If someone is doing something wrong to you or your child, tell them or demand their boss! Do not just sit by and let incompetence take over the situation. Sounds like you have it under control. I knew you would, Gwen! :)

Like everyone else on here, I'm proud of you, Mama Bear. You have to be stern when it comes to your children; I don't care who it is. I'm just very thankful to God that she won't remember her hurt when she was in China

Oh Gwen,
I am so glad to read that there are good options for Maggie. I hope that the CT turns out ok.
I am so sad though to hear that she is still having hard days. I will continue to pray.

I'm gonna say something here that may make you cry, Gwen....but it has really been on my heart ever since reading the story on Maggie..

"Life is not measured by the amount of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away"

Solely speaking for myself - although I think everyone would agree - that Maggie has absolutely taken my breath away...

God Bless you

Oh Gwen,

Unfortunately both of my sons had surgeries as babies and we spent a lot of time in the hosptial. i recently posted about my son's head surgery in fact. Yes, you have to be the Mama Bear. It is sad to say but no one else will advocate for her if you do not. I am praying for your family.
