FEEDING THE HOMELESS

As some of you know we as a family have been struggling with where God has been leading us to serve. Not sure if it is the second adoption, my Daniel Bible Study, or just testimony of one of my mentors, but Scott and I just felt God calling us to deeper service as a family. We have been apart of two fabulous churches in the last 8 years and the teaching has been so strong and mission clear. We as Christians have to be "Doers" and not just "Hearers" of the word. We have taught Sunday school, lead at VBS, volunteered at church events, and donated to many missions or service oriented projects, but just felt that if we don't show our kids the "Doing" aspect of God's word then what will happen as they get older.

We are going to make feeding the homeless a twice monthly activity for our family. It was amazing the questions the kids had and the care with which they took to make sure each bag was prepared. I just happen to walk by an end cap at Target and they had their blankets at 75% off. Only $4.88 per blanket. I felt God telling me to buy all they had and for good reason. It was 35 degrees today and raining. We prepared 24 lunches and had 24 blankets to had out. Jeremiah was deeply moved and felt God sent those specific people to our car today and was concerned that we were one short. He said next time we must prepare more. I was proud of the kids and feel blessed that God can use us. I pray that He will continue to challenge us as a family and show us where we can serve !!! Enjoy the preparation video below ...

I haven't gone down and fed the homeless since I was in CCD (which is preparation classes for confirmation for Catholics). It was a life-changing experience; although I have to admit I was a little scared.

That is a great activity to do with your kids! I want to pack up my nieces and nephews and take them with me to Malawi on my next trip. I would love for them to really see that they are living a privileged life and should strive to be givers and not takers. And be more grateful for what they have instead of focussing on what they want next.

That is SO awesome! Thank you for sharing what you are called to do. It is amazing how, if we listen to the voice of God in our lives, He WILL directy our paths. He is so good that way. That's how we lead the fulfilling lives that God calls us to. So many Christians wonder what the bible means when it says that we should have joy and peace and kindness, etc., they wonder how to get it. You get it by allowing God to work through you and in you. Let Him and LIVE. Life in Him is unsurpassed!

Gwen,

I'm so amazed and, yet, somehow not surprised that you bought 24 blankets to give away!! :) What a heart you have, girl!

I haven't been in touch in awhile and wanted you to know that I was thinking of you.

I really want us to catch up soon -- in person. Maybe somewhere in the squares of our busy, busy calendars we can make that happen.

Love,
Dori

Hey there; turns out that my procedure has been postponed until Monday...my coumadin levels were just too high to do it safely. Can't tell u how frustrated I am, but I have been praying about it and know that it's the best thing to do (after all, I don't want to bleed to death from having my blood too thin; and that's what they said might happen if we go ahead with it tomorrow)
